What we collect
GadgetsGoneWild.com is mostly a read-only site. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask you to fill out forms in order to read articles or watch embedded videos. The categories of information we do collect are limited:
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how readers find and use the site — which pages are popular, which creators get clicks, which categories matter. GA4 collects pseudonymous identifiers (cookies, IP-derived approximate location, device and browser type). We have IP-anonymization enabled. GA4 is currently a placeholder integration; if you visit the site before we wire it in, no analytics cookies are set.
- Affiliate click events. When you click an outbound affiliate link, our redirect handler (
/go/[id]) logs the link ID and a timestamp on Vercel's server logs. We do not log your IP address, name, email, or any other personal data tied to that click. - Email address (future). If we launch a newsletter, you'll be able to subscribe by giving us your email address. We don't have a newsletter live yet, but when we do, subscribing is opt-in only and you can unsubscribe with one click.
- Vercel server logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, automatically logs incoming requests (URL, status code, user agent, approximate IP region) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for a short period and are not used for marketing.
Cookies
We split cookies into three categories:
- Essential. Cookies strictly necessary to deliver the site (none currently — the site works without any first-party cookies).
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4 cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) used to measure aggregated traffic. Anonymized. - Affiliate. When you click through to Amazon or another retailer, that retailer sets their own cookies on their domain (not ours). Those cookies are governed by the retailer's privacy policy. We do not have access to them.
Who we share information with
- Google Analytics — receives pseudonymous analytics events from your browser if you have not blocked it.
- Amazon and other retailers — receive a referral identifier when you click an affiliate link, plus whatever data their own cookies and pixels collect on their domain.
- Vercel — our hosting provider, receives request-level server logs as part of normal operations.
- Cloudflare — our DNS and CDN provider, may process request metadata.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with advertisers, brokers, or any third party not listed above.
Legal basis (GDPR)
For EU/UK readers, our legal bases for processing the limited data described above are:
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — for aggregated analytics, server logs, and affiliate click measurement, which are necessary to operate and improve a free editorial site.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for any future newsletter subscription or non-essential tracking cookies.
